Prosecutor honored with Family & Children’s Place Gold Medal Award

Family & Children’s Place honored Floyd County Prosecutor Keith A. Henderson with a Gold Medal Award for his outstanding work in the community on behalf of children at the Sixth Annual Family Reunion & Eric Tachau Gold Medal Awards. Family & Children’s Place is a local organization that has provided support to families for over 126 years. Most recently, this organization has focused on helping families and children affected by abuse, neglect, and violence.

Mr. Henderson was recognized with this award for his instrumental role in bringing a Child Advocacy Center (CAC) to Floyd County. The CAC is a child-friendly center that assists child victims of sexual abuse trauma and their family members. Services help children aged 0 through 17 years and adults with certain developmental disabilities. The CAC provides forensic interviews, mental health care, and medical care to assure fact gathering, assess the emotional consequence of abuse, and ensure a qualified medical examination to identify possible injuries or health concerns.

The creation of a CAC in Floyd County provides invaluable support to the greater community, to law enforcement, and to our children. Mr. Henderson is proud to have been one of the many dedicated people involved with the implementation of this irreplaceable community resource.
