Keith Henderson at University of Louisville School of Nursing Lecture Event

Prosecutor Keith A. Henderson was a featured panel member at a lecture event held last Friday, April 2, 2010 that was hosted by the University of Louisville School of Nursing’s chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International–an honor society of nursing. The focus of the event was the medical and legal implications surrounding maternal substance abuse and its effects on infants and children.Several issues were discussed as part of the legal response to the issue of maternal substance abuse and children who have been born with injuries or addictions due to mothers who abuse drugs while pregnant.

Parts of the panel discussion focused on examining laws already in place that could be utilized better for the protection of mothers and their children; also discussed was the  abuse of both legal and illegally obtained prescription drugs and the sources and availability of these drugs in vulnerable populations.

    The Victim’s Assistance Coordinator provides information for victims through interactions with law enforcement, prosecutors and during court proceedings; by providing support and guidance to victims and their families; by informing victims of their rights; and by advising victims and/or their families of case developments and any upcoming trial court or hearing dates.
