Dale R. Whalin Sentenced to 50 Years in Child Molestation Case

Dale R. Whalin

New Albany resident Dale R. Whalin, 28, was sentenced on May 27, 2010 in Floyd Superior Court 1 to 50 years imprisonment with the Indiana Department of Corrections for Child Molesting as a Class A Felony.

The advisory sentence for a Class A Felony in Indiana is 30 years, with a possible range of 20 to 50 years.

Whalin will be committed to the Indiana Department of Corrections (IDOC) for 35 years; 15 years of his sentence will be suspended as supervised probation. With the IDOC’s “Good Time Credit” policy, Whalin’s earliest release date will be October 16, 2025, while his latest release date could be April 16, 2043.

The New Albany Police Department Criminal Investigation Division investigated this case, and Deputy Prosecutor Timothy Gray prosecuted the case on behalf of the State. Court appointed public defender Robert Colone represented the defendant.

Whalin was found to be a sexually violent predator, and as such he must register as a sex offender for life.
